Queen Mary 2, Northern Europe

I loved this cruise. It is several years since we went on this ship and I found all the staff very much friendlier than before. The food was excellent, and we had a table for 2 without any problem. As it happened we had very pleasant people all around us, so it was very social and enjoyable. There were far more tables for 2 than usual- possibly because of Covid, but they were close together which was fine for chatting.
Our room was perfectly fine- we had an enclosed balcony. As it was very windy it was lovely to see out but no-one would want to sit out there.
Norway was very wet- in Bergen it bucketed down. In Tromso we did the Cathedral of the North with a 40minute concert which was superb. The cathedral guide had real humour and it was a trip I would recommend to anyone.
Trondheim was beautiful and the cathedral was well worth a look around. Also very warm, unlike our UK ones.
We missed going to Alesund and Stavanger because the weather was too rough. Being on QM2 we really didn't notice the swell, but the Captain decided we would go on to Belgium for safety.
From Zeebrugge many guests went to Bruges, but having been there before, we did a trip to see local villages and a chocolate shop. Our guide was a very enthusiastic ex-history teacher so we had a lengthy description of Belgium's royal family, politics etc which was for me over-long.
The entertainment on board was very good-some excellent speakers, and Michel Roux did a talk and a cookery show. The concert pianist was a joy to listen to, and Mike Doyle was very entertaining.
The pavilion pool was variable in temperature, but mostly fine.
I loved everything about this cruise. Even disembarking this morning was hassle-free.
