Quite a bit had changed since my last cruise over six years' ago.
We had a long wait in the queue for the port parking before embarking but, once in the terminal, things were very smooth and efficient to get us on board the ship. There was no requirement to take your life jackets down to the muster station as before - we just had to check where it was beforehand.
The cabin steward now only comes in once a day, in the morning, when you leave the sign on your door for him to make up the room. The main differences during the cruise were that there was no Captain's welcome party on the formal night - just vouchers for a free glass of fizz from the bar, no chefs' parade through the restaurant, and there were no photographers waiting to take your photo at every opportunity when embarking/disembarking, during dinner, or at other times - they were only in the atrium on particular evenings.
Overall, the service during the cruise was good and disembarkation/embarkation at ports visited ran smoothly. The entertainment had something for everyone and there was a good selection of restaurants and bars.
The final disembarkation at Southampton ran extremely smoothly, with no waiting required beyond your allotted time, and we were able to pick up our car from the car park without delay.
