Nude cruise? Here's the naked truth
This cruise line lets you sail au naturel. But would you dare to bare?
The sun on your skin, the sea breeze in your hair… and absolutely nothing else. That’s the reality for passengers on a Bare Necessities cruise, where clothing is strictly optional and tan lines are a thing of the past.
But is it all sun, sea and carefree skinny-dipping, or does the thought of baring all in front of strangers send you running for your dressing gown?
What’s a Bare Necessities cruise all about?
Bare Necessities has been running clothing-optional voyages for over 30 years, taking thousands of passengers on cruises where they can enjoy life in the buff. Specialising in naturist-friendly sailings, the company is best known for its “Big Nude Boat”, an annual voyage that attracts naturists from all over the world. With a relaxed atmosphere and a focus on body positivity, their cruises are all about shedding your worries – along with your clothes.
What happens on board?
Well, pretty much everything you’d expect on a regular cruise – just with fewer outfit changes. Days are spent sunbathing, swimming and sipping cocktails, while evenings bring dance parties, entertainment and themed events.
There are still some rules, though. Bare Necessities asks passengers to use a towel when sitting and to wear clothes in certain areas, including the dining rooms. The company's website even includes this small piece of helpful advice:
"When in doubt as to what is appropriate attire, simply confirm that breasts, bottoms and genitalia are fully covered by clothing that is not considered to be fetish-wear or lingerie."
That's noted. Thanks for the tip.
So, would you dare to bare?
