Stop by Dubrovnik's 14th-century apothecary for a jar of their famous rose cream or climb the bell tower in Koper for panoramic views of the city before heading to nearby Piran, where you can visit the Postojna Cave, an impressive natural formation that was carved by the Pivka River over millions of years. During winter, Croatia's picturesque farming villages become a feast of delicious organic wines, smoked hams, sausages, and homemade cheeses, with locals happy to show you their crafts and traditions from spinning silk to making olive oil. Two nights in Venice give you plenty of time to see St. Mark's, enjoy a moonlight gondola ride, and check out the fine glassware and lace on Murano and Burano. Then it's off to Delphi where the Oracle gave her cryptic and sometimes world-changing prophecies, followed by a transit of the sheer-walled Corinth Canal, a passage reserved for small ships like ours. Your odyssey ends in Athens, transformed by winter into a city of Athenians, with easy access to archeological sites and bakeries brimming with traditional winter treats.
