Lisbon to Cape Town
Set sail for Africa on a 28-day voyage of exploration from Lisbon, capital of Portugal. After a hop along the coast to the seaside resort of Portimão, we’ll cross to the Canary Islands. Feel the volcanic sands of Lanzarote between your toes, see one of the most famous works by the architect Santiago Calatrava, his striking Auditorio de Tenerife, and visit the bustling city of Las Palmas, on Gran Canaria, before waving goodbye to Europe. Now, we cross the ocean to touch land in Africa at culinary Porto Praia and artsy São Vicente in Santiago, one of the sunny Cape Verde islands. Relax and make the most of the ship’s fantastic facilities as we spend three days at sea heading to Tema in Ghana, which was built as a showcase for the country's homegrown Modernist architecture. Onwards to Cotonou in Benin, to see the stilt houses in the lagoon village of Ganvie, followed by a relaxing day at sea traveling to São Tomé, a twin-island nation with its neighbor Principe, a place to understand the beginnings of the transatlantic slave trade. Next, we alternate sea days with stop offs in Angola at Luanda, to stroll its colonial and modern streets, and Namibe, where the desert meets the ocean, then Walvis Bay in Namibia, to see flamingos and pelicans. More time at sea delivers us to Cape Town on the tip of South Africa.
