Four days in Spain's Canary Islands open this voyage via Africa to the capital of Portugal. Next, we switch continents to Africa and call by Morocco, where Agadir's history absorbs and Casablanca's jumble of streets and markets invigorate. Returning to Europe, we reach Portimão on Portugal's Algarve for an irresistible chance to sunbathe on its long stretches of sand. An overnight stay in Lisbon marks the end of our voyage, with plenty of time to sample the city's old-world charm – as well as its delicious custard tarts.
