Civitavecchia (Rome) to Lisbon
We leave the wonders of Rome behind as we chart a course along Italy’s famed Amalfi Coast. First, we call at Sorrento, to admire the views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. We then sail to Palermo, the capital of Sicily, where cultural and historical treasures include a 9th-century palace and 12th-century cathedral. Next, we dip down to touch the coast of North Africa with a stop in La Goulette, Tunisia, from where you can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Carthage. Enjoy a relaxing day at sea while we journey to the Spanish enclave of Melilla to explore its fort and secret tunnels. Then comes the Spanish mainland: Motril brings lovely beaches and the opportunity to travel to Granada’s famed Alhambra; Cartagena wows with its Roman amphitheater; and Valencia tantalizes the tastebuds with its incredible restaurants (it is the birthplace of paella, after all). In Barcelona, majestic architecture, designer shopping, and a world-leading food scene await your discovery. Next, we spend a day at Mahón, the small and elegant capital of the Spanish island of Menorca, then hop over to Mallorca, stopping at Palma, with its spectacular Gothic cathedral and thriving art scene. Heading back to mainland Spain, we reach dynamic Alicante on the Costa Blanca and sail on to lively Málaga. Continuing south, we call at Tangier, Morocco’s cosmopolitan northern city, and then visit Spain’s historic port of Cádiz before a day at sea brings us to Lisbon.
