Windstar Cruises, which operates a three-ship fleet of deluxe motor sailing yachts, is delighted to announce that, despite the existing gloomy economic outlook, its final figures for 2008 compared, to the previous trading year, show a 60% increase in passenger numbers and a 55% increase in revenues. Additionally, when looking at future business, Windstar is now 25% ahead for 2009 revenue, compared with this time last year for 2008.
The increase in 2008 trading figures marks a significant year for Windstar, during which it was awarded a number of accolades including: being voted number one choice for small/mid-sized cruise lines by the readers of Celebrated Living magazine (the prestigious consumer publication for American Airlines first class passengers) for the second year in a row. Additionally, Windstar was named “Favourite Small-Ship Cruise Line” in the 2008 UK’s Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Travel Awards, as well as being voted one of 2008’s “Top Small Ship Cruise Lines” in USA’s Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards.
“We’re really pleased with the figures for 2008,” says Bill Ellerington, Business Development Director of The Cruise Portfolio. “The positive figures already apparent for the start of 2009 also give cause for optimism for the forthcoming year, during which Windstar will be relaunching its “Signature Collection” Series, which sees distinguished guest lecturers sail on selected cruises throughout the 2009 season; as well as introducing Venice roundtrip sailings; and the addition of an increased number and variety of Croatian port visits.”
