William Shatner to host the first official Star Trek fan cruise in 2017

William Shatner will host the first officially licensed Star Trek cruise aboard Norwegian Pearl in January 2017.

Dubbed “Star Trek: The Cruise”, the six-night cruise organised by Entertainment Cruise Productions will sail from Miami on 9 January bound for Cozumel, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; and Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay.

William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the series, said “I am excited to be the host of Star Trek: The Cruise. When I was told that this was the first authorised Star Trek cruise and part of the 50th anniversary celebration, I just knew that my participation would be something that our fans would enjoy. It should be a lot of fun.”

Shatner will be joined by other Star Trek actors including Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), Denise Crosby (Security Chief Tasha Ya) and Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi) from Star Trek: The Next Generation; Robert Picardo (The Doctor) from Star Trek: Voyager; James Darren (Vic Fontaine) from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and John de Lancie (“Q”) from The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

The Enterprise Blues Band will also perform for guests. Comprising of Vaughn Armstrong, Steve Rankin and Casey Biggs, each of the band members has appeared in the Star Trek series.

Organisers are expecting 2,200 fans to take part in the cruise. Passengers will be treated to dramatic performances, comedy shows and concerts by Star Trek actors. There will also be intimate speaking engagements with leading scientists, influencers and experts. Fans will enjoy the themed parties (including Holo Nights, Q’s Masquerade Ball, Risa’s Festival Of The Moon Party, and Starfleet’s Intergalactic Gala), interactive games (including Star Trek-themed chess, Catan, Risk, Trivial Pursuit and trivia contents), screenings of many of the Star Trek movies on the pool deck, competitions, and more.

There will also be pool parties, artist clinics, question and answer seminars, interviews, artist-hosted cocktail parties, celebrity blackjack and poker tournaments, and game shows. Bars will be themed including Quark’s Bar (from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), Ten Forward Bar (from Star Trek: The Next Generation), and 602 Club (from Star Trek: Enterprise).

While this is not the first Star Trek fan cruise to take to the seas it is the first officially licensed cruise and coincides with the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
