Saga Pearl II to sail the British Isles – but with no port calls

For many passengers the number of ports of call on a cruise itinerary can be the deciding factor on whether or not to book.

In an unusual move Saga has planned a seven-night cruise aboard Saga Pearl II along the British Isles with zero port calls.

The 449-passenger ship will embark on a coastal journey taking in Land’s End and John O’Groats with a cruise past the Old Man of Hoy, a red sandstone stack in the Orkney archipelago, just off the coast of Scotland.

In the sheltered waters of the Sound of Mull, Saga Pearl II will pass 13th century Duart Castle and the pink granite Ardnamurchan Lighthouse.

Guests will be treated to wonderful views of rolling countryside on the Emerald Isle, as well the Giant’s Causeway and the port of Dublin.

Saga Pearl II will cross the Irish Sea to the Pembrokeshire coast where there will be a chance to see puffins on the isles of Skomer and Skokholm. Further highlights include the South Stack, a tiny island on the north-west coast of Anglesey, with a 200-year-old lighthouse perched on a crag.

There will be a chance to spot peregrines and grey seals off Lundy Island, along Devon coast as well as viewing Old Harry Rocks in Dorset.

A spokeswoman for Saga told World of Cruising that this unusual cruise was designed for people who wanted to appreciate the wildlife and beauty of the British coastline from a different perspective. She also recommended the sailing for those who had previously visited many British ports and who wanted more relaxing days at sea on a cruise.

This unique seven-night cruise departs Dover on 28 May 2016. Prices start from £1,499 per person based on two sharing an inside cabin. The price includes return chauffeur service to and from Dover, all meals and entertainment, a choice of table wines with lunch and dinner, afternoon tea, 24-hour room service, a welcome cocktail party, unlimited tea and coffee in selected venues, free Wi-Fi internet, all on-board gratuities, and porterage.
