The ship is being constructed to cater to the Chinese market. A spokeswoman for Princess Cruises said that this will still be the case despite the addition of a brief maiden European cruise season. She added that European guests will have the opportunity to experience the ship without having to travel to China.

Princess Cruises has also announced its other 2017 European voyages. The season features six ships sailing to 119 destinations from the corners of the Mediterranean to the northernmost tip of Europe. A total of 64 unique itineraries will be available with 153 cruise departures scheduled.

The 3,080-passenger Crown Princess will be based in Southampton from April to September, offering seven- and 14-night round-trip Mediterranean and Scandinavia cruises.

Royal Princess will sail Mediterranean voyages while Regal Princess will return to northern Europe for cruises to Scandinavia and Russia.

British Isles cruises will be expanded with 12 departures scheduled on the 3,140-passenger Caribbean Princess. All 12-day British Isles cruises will feature a late evening stay in Belfast and an option of an overnight in Dublin on select departures from Southampton.

The smaller 680-passenger Pacific Princess will sail on round trips out of Dover from June to September. Several northern Europe itineraries will be offered as well as British Isles voyages.

Both Crown Princess and Pacific Princess will offer North Cape voyages to the Arctic Circle during the peak midnight sun period around the summer solstice.

Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises’ President, said: “Princess is known for offering the best cruise itineraries around the globe and our 2017 Europe season is sure to inspire our guests with our newest and largest ships in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. We’re especially excited to début Majestic Princess in the Mediterranean before she officially sails to Asia for her maiden China cruise season.”

Bookings for these 2017 itineraries will be available from Thursday 3 December 2015 at 4pm.
