Sail Egypt with a saving
Save up to £350pp* this winter with TUI River Cruises
Grab a great deal for a river cruise meandering along the Nile with TUI River Cruises this winter.
As Africa’s longest river, the Nile runs through 11 countries before joining the Mediterranean Sea – so there’s plenty to see.
The history of the Nile is expansive, with the river playing a key role in the development of Egyptian civilisation, with Egyptians relying on the Nile for transportation, food, water and fertile land for farming.
Nowadays, more than 95% of Egypt’s population still depends on the Nile’s water and live close to, or on, the riverbanks. Plenty of animals call the Nile home including turtles, snakes, hippos and the Nile crocodile – which is one of the world’s largest reptiles.
And TUI River Cruises sails to the Nile in style, with the line’s latest ship, TUI Al Horeya, cruising a dedicated itinerary with Egyptologists onboard to answer every burning question.

What can you see on a Nile River cruise?
In Luxor, your homeport, you’ll be able to explore one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on Earth – known widely as the greatest open-air museum on the planet.
Here, you’ll find the Valley of the Kings and striking temples of Luxor and Karnak. Ensure you walk along Sphinx Avenue, which is located between the two temples, to admire over 1,000 statues that line the avenue.
In fact, you can hit all these hotspots by opting for the ‘Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and Nile boat trip’ excursion with TUI.
You’ll begin with the world-famous Valley of the Kings, home to more than 60 tombs (including Tutankhamun), then go on to visit the Hatshepsut Temple. This striking three-floor temple rises above the desert floor. Afterwards, you’ll travel back to the river for an hour-long trip along the Nile on a traditional wooden boat called a felucca.
Abu Simbel, two temples built by the Egyptian king Ramesses II in Aswan, is another must-do – known for the four colossal statues of Ramesses II sat in pairs at the entrance of the main temple.
With TUI River Cruises, you can embark on a full-day tour here to explore the temples, which now are located more than 200 feet above their previous site after being remarkably relocated due to a flooding threat from the nearby reservoir.
Or, stay closer to the ship to see the Aswan High Dam, which was built in the 1960 and 70s. Fun fact – when it opened, this Dam was the tallest of its kind in the world (the Jinping-I Dam is now the tallest Dam in the world).
Nearby, you’ll be able to visit the largest known ancient obelisk, the aptly named Unfinished Obelisk.
And, if you have time, squeeze in a visit to the Philae Temple, which was one of the last temples that practised Egyptian religion before being converted to a Christian church in the sixth century.
If you fancy admiring more temples, then your morning in Edfu will be the highlight of your cruise as you can visit the magnificent Temple of Horus in an included excursion with the expertise of an Egyptologist – the best-persevered example of an Ancient Egyptian temple.
